Richmond Day on the Hill Recap 2024

1/23/24, 10:00 PM

Thank you all for coming out to the Day on the Hill function we had.  The Legislative Management Team greatly appreciates your commitment to legislative excellence and helping us and our State Leadership push the healthcare needle in the right direction.

Dear National Association of Benefit and Insurance Professionals (NABIB) Members,

I hope this message finds you well. We are pleased to provide you with a legislative update following our recent "Day on the Hill" event at the Virginia General Assembly. This year's advocacy efforts have proven to be impactful as we engaged with a dozen legislators to discuss various bills crucial to our industry.

During our meetings, we had the opportunity to introduce NABIP under our new brand to both freshman and senior members of the Virginia House and Virginia State Senate. The relationships formed and discussions held were instrumental in creating awareness about the association's priorities and goals.

The highlight of our event was the luncheon, attended by approximately 20 NABIP Members, where three distinguished panelists shared insights on the legislative landscape. The panel included myself, Doug Gray from the Virginia Association of Health Plans, and Robert Bradshaw representing the Independent Insurance Association of Virginia. The luncheon served as an excellent platform to address key issues and foster collaboration among industry professionals.

As we navigate through the legislative session, we are pleased to report that our early engagement has already yielded positive results. Approximately a quarter of the bills we were tracking have been either tabled until 2025, stricken from the docket, or voted down altogether. This underscores the importance of our proactive approach in advocating for policies that align with our industry's interests.

The bills still under consideration cover a range of crucial topics, including continuity of care coverage, colorectal cancer screening, the establishment of a prescription drug affordability board, coverage for diabetes, cost-sharing for Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), coverage for physical therapy, outpatient visit limits, incentives for mental health services, and prior authorization requirements between providers and plan carriers.

As we approach the crossover period in less than two weeks, where bills pass between the Senate and House for final deliberation, it is essential to stay informed. If you have a specific bill that you would like an update on, please reach out to Christopher West at 804-986-6011 or via email at cwest@JacksonWest.com.

Your active involvement and support are crucial as we continue to advocate for policies that positively impact our industry. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in shaping the legislative landscape for benefit and insurance professionals.

Thank you for your dedication and commitment to the National Association of Benefit and Insurance Professionals.
