March 2024 Legislative Update

With the 2024 Virginia legislative session nearing its end and "Sine Die" just a week away, bills that have successfully passed both the House and the Senate are poised to reach Governor Youngkin's desk for potential signature into law or veto. Concurrently, legislation with similar goals but differing approaches will undergo conference proceedings to reconcile any disparities before returning to the House and Senate for re-approval, ultimately reaching the Governor's desk.

You can explore the VA website for details on several bills approaching unanimous or near-unanimous passage. Noteworthy bills include HB 218 on continuity of care after a provider's termination, HB 238 addressing colorectal cancer screening, HB 570 establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (likely facing a gubernatorial veto), HB 591 concerning Commonwealth Reinsurance Program Payment parameters, SB 87 focusing on primary care provider incentives for mental health referrals, and SB 98 proposing prior authorization changes.
